Middle East Pulse: Profiles, Arts, Culture Fishing for plastic: Egypt's fishermen work to clean up the Nile river 2,000 fishermen have collected 100,000 kilograms of plastic waste since last January from the Nile river, according to Very Nile, a new collaboration between environmentally-friendly companies that aims to clean up Egypt’s storied waterway. The river is heavily polluted by waste water, agricultural runoff, industrial waste and trash that is thrown directly into the waters. Experts say the pollution has severely affected biodiversity, especially fishing and human health.
