Kepel, one of Europe's leading experts on Islamism, the Middle East and North Africa, is a professor at the Institute of Political Studies, Paris (Sciences Po). His numerous books — which include "Jihad: The Trail of Political Islam," "The War for Muslim Minds: Islam and the West," "Beyond Terror and Martyrdom: The Future of the Middle East," and "The Prophet and the Pandemic" — have been translated into seventeen languages.

Middle East Pulse: Profiles, Arts, Culture The dangerous profession of fishing in Gaza When Salem Abu Amira from Gaza City was 10 years old, his father began teaching him how to fish. Today, he spends more than four hours each day diving into the waters outside Gaza. But fishermen in the coastal enclave have increasingly relied on food aid to support their families. A Gaza fisherman told Al-Monitor the increased dependence on aid is largely due to repeated harassment of Gaza fishermen by Israeli forces. It’s turned fishing into a dangerous profession.
