Bahrain appoints crown prince as new prime minister

Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa will immediately take over as premier, the state news agency reported.

Bahrain's Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has been appointed prime minister following the death of the Gulf state’s long-serving premier Wednesday. 

The 51-year-old’s appointment, which the official Bahrain News Agency said will take effect immediately, makes Crown Prince Salman only the second prime minister in Bahraini history.
