Senior officials from Hamas and Hezbollah attended Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration on Tuesday, while French President Emmanuel Macron called the leader the day prior to discuss the Israel-Hezbollah tensions and the war in Ukraine.
Palestinian armed groups were present at the inauguration. Pezeshkian met with both Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh and Islamic Jihad Secretary-General Ziyad Nakhaleh in separate meetings and expressed support for the Palestinian cause.
“Supporting the cause of the oppressed Palestinian nation will continue with strength and nothing can disrupt our will and resolve on this issue,” said Pezeshkian to Nakhaleh, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Hezbollah was represented by its deputy secretary-general, Sheikh Naim Qassem. Pezeshkian called for “unity and cohesion” among Muslim countries against Israel during a Monday evening meeting with Qassem. Pezeshkian received Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous the same night.
