A Canadian citizen was killed Monday after trying to stab guards at the entrance of Netiv HaAsara, a village located near the border with northern Gaza.
The Israeli police said the man arrived at the gate of the village by car. He then stepped out of the vehicle waving a knife at the guards and yelled in English that Israel is killing people in the Gaza Strip. Ziv Wolk, who commands the village’s guard unit, was cited by Ynet as saying, "The man yelled at the guards at the gate. They ordered him to stop and not come closer, but he refused and started running in their direction. At that point he was shot."
The Israeli military confirmed that the attacker was a foreign citizen who had traveled to the village from Israel, and not from Gaza. It also said the attacker had arrived in Israel on Sunday. Israeli authorities have not released the identity of the attacker.
