Spanish retail giant Zara is facing backlash over its latest advertisement campaign that pro-Palestinian activists say had a striking resemblance to scenes coming out of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

What happened: The controversial ad campaign was released Dec. 7 and featured mannequins that were missing limbs and statues wrapped in white. The photo shoot also included a shot of model Kristen McMenamy posing in front of a broken wall, and holding a mannequin wrapped in a white shroud, with dust, rubble and stones scattered around her.

People were quick to denounce the campaign, accusing Zara of celebrating the destruction of Gaza.

The #BoycottZara hashtag has been trending on the X platform, with social media users calling for boycotting the fashion brand.
