The US Embassy in Ankara confirmed Dec. 18 that a “member of the US diplomatic mission community” was involved in a car crash last week while reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, but denied earlier reports that the individual in question was the husband of the US consul general to Istanbul.

Local media had reported last week that Mounir Elkhamri was involved in a car accident, injuring one person while reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol. The reports identified him as "the spouse of US Consul General in Istanbul Julie Eadeh."
