Al-Monitor names Joyce Karam as senior news editor
WASHINGTON (Dec. 5, 2022) — Al-Monitor, an award-winning source of independent, original news and commentary about the Middle East, has named Joyce Karam as senior news editor.
Karam comes to Al-Monitor after serving as senior US correspondent for The National and prior to that, Washington bureau chief for Al Hayat. She started her journalism career in Beirut, covering Lebanon after the civil war, and has carried out reporting assignments across the Middle East, including in the Gulf and Syria.
Karam is also an adjunct professor of political science at George Washington University. A graduate of both the Lebanese University in Beirut and Arcadia University in Pennsylvania, Joyce is fluent in Arabic and English.
“I am excited to join the Al-Monitor team and help build on its world-class reputation for diversity of perspectives, independence and the highest journalistic standards in its coverage of the Middle East,” said Karam.
Al-Monitor is followed widely by US, international and Middle East decision-makers at the highest levels, as well as by media outlets and experts covering the region. Its products include Al-Monitor Pro, a premium offering of newsletters, webinars, events and analytical memos.
“Al-Monitor is growing in both our news coverage and with our Pro content,” said Al-Monitor CEO Greg Cohen. “Joyce is a fantastic addition for us, especially now, and will be central to expanding our news operations.”
“Joyce has a sterling reputation as a journalist, in Washington and the Middle East,” said Andrew Parasiliti, president of Al-Monitor. “We are very pleased to have her on board as senior news editor.”
