New dredger joins expanded Suez Canal fleet

A new dredger has joined the Suez Canal fleet to help maintain and expand the crucial waterway in the wake of the Ever Given crisis.

CAIRO — The head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie, said in a July 27 press statement that a new dredger has arrived in the Suez Canal from the Netherlands. The Hussein Tantawy is named after the former Egyptian minister of defense.

According to Rabie, the Hussein Tantawy is an advanced vessel with a length of 147.4 meters, a width of 23 meters and productivity of 3,600 cubic meters of sand per hour.
