Al-Monitor received the Free Media Pioneer award at the International Press Institute's (IPI) 2014 World Congress in Cape Town.

Held in Capetown, South Africa from April 12-15 2014, the International Press Institute's (IPI) World Congress drew nearly 300 participants. On April 14, the IPI honored Al-Monitor with the Free Media Pioneer Award and named Iranian journalist Mashallah Shamsolvaezin the 2014 World Press Freedom Hero.
