Live Updates: Israel strikes Yemen as Hezbollah confirms senior commander killed with Nasrallah
Hezbollah confirmed the death of senior leader Ali Karaki on Sunday, saying he was killed along with Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in the Israeli strike south of Beirut on Friday. The news came as Nasrallah's body was recovered from the site of the bombing, local media outlets reported.
In addition to Karaki, Israel confirmed that it killed Nabil Qawook, a commander of the group’s Preventative Security Unit and a member of the Executive Council, in a separate strike on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Israel continued to pound Lebanon on Sunday. The official National News Agency reported Israeli strikes throughout the country, including Beirut’s southern suburbs and the Bekaa Valley — two areas where Hezbollah has a strong presence. Four people were killed by Israeli strikes in the Bekaa town of Halbata, according to the agency.
Hezbollah fired a barrage of rockets toward northern Israel, the Israeli military said.
In meetings with United Nations officials, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of “dangerous consequences” for Israel, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported on Sunday, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed its military adviser, Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan, was killed in the same Friday strike that killed Nasrallah.
