Israel struck an air base in northwest Syria’s Idlib province on Tuesday, Damascus said, drawing condemnation from a senior Trump administration official.

What happened: Syrian state TV news channel Ekhbariya reported that Israeli jets struck the Abu Duhur air base eight times, damaging one of the runways. There were no casualties, according to the outlet.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident. The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the strikes as an "unjustified act of aggression and a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability,” the official SANA news outlet reported.

US special presidential envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said the Trump administration is “deeply concerned” by the strikes, adding that Damascus does not pose a threat to Israel.
