Rehabilitation Project Gives Hope to Gaza's Disabled
A project funded by the Turkish government aims to reintegrate Gaza’s disabled into society and provide them the necessary tools to earn an income, Abeer Ayyoub reports.
With every war, the rate of the handicapped in Gaza rises. Both governmental and nongovernmental organizations are expanding their projects to assist those with disabilities, varying between physical, psychological and lately vocational rehabilitation.
Sponsored by the Turkish government, the Islamic University of Gaza is running a project in which people with disabilities are provided with vocational and professional rehabilitation. The project, given the Arabic name Irada — meaning "will" — was launched in mid-2012 to employ applicants for one year after first finishing a year in related vocational training. The project includes participants of both genders, aged between 16 and 40.
